Dissolving Domestic Partnerships

Are you currently in a domestic partnership but have been talking about breaking up with your partner? If so, it is important to understand how to dissolve your relationship legally in your state.
In the state of New Jersey, for example, you can file for dissolution of your domestic partnership. This is the same as filing for dissolution of a marriage, which must be done at the Supreme Court of the State of New Jersey. This only applies to those couples that have registered to have their domestic partnership legally recognized by the state.
If you declared your relationship in New Jersey but have since moved to another state, you will then be subject to the laws regarding dissolution in that state.
Rather than try to navigate these tricky legal waters by yourself, consider working with a family lawyer in your state of residence who is familiar with both family and domestic partnership laws as they apply to your current situation.
