County Gets Tough on Child Support Payments

When you don't make your child support payments in Yolo County, the Department of Child Support Services will hunt you down and make you pay. This was the case for Jaime S. Felipe, 51, who reduced four criminal charges down to one by pleading guilty to failing to provide for this children.

His final sentence includes thirty days in jail, three years probation, and a monthly payment of $200 for child support arrears. Attorney with the Child Support department, Colin Anderson, speaks openly about the case in the hopes of raising awareness about the problem of non-payment, stating that "our goal is to get everyone who owes child support to live up to their responsibilities."

In addition to hunting down negligent parents, the Yolo County Department of Child Support Services collects child support payments, obtaining medical support orders, finding absent parents, and taking care of 12,000 children in and surrounding the county.
