Overcomign Feelings and Paying Alimony

When it comes to getting a divorce, you must be prepared to be truthful, even when it will be emotionally painful. This is especially true if you plan on asking for or paying alimony.
Although you may be tempted to pay your spouse less than you earn due to hurt feelings, you must be aware that the court will not feel the same way. The same goes for those individuals who want to ask for alimony; do not lie about your financial situation, but rather give an honest assessment of it. You must disclose any significant bills that you have to pay, as these will determine how much alimony is granted each month.
When a judge reviews your case for alimony, he/she will look at who was responsible for supporting who during your marriage. If your partner was able to support him/herself during your marriage, even if it was a small amount, you must bring this to the judge's attention to provide a clear picture of your financial history together.
