Kansas Collects $18,000 in Child Support in One Day

States like Kansas are constantly struggling to get negligent parents to make child support payments. Earlier this month, several agencies in Kansas worked together to battle this problem, and were successful in collecting nearly $18,000 in just one day.

The recent event was aimed at parents who currently have bench warrants out for their arrest. These parents have all been negligent in making their child support payments and missing appointed court dates, thus forcing judges to issue bench warrants. By providing a day of amnesty for these parents to come in and speak with legal professionals without the fear of being arrested, several counties benefited by collecting some much-needed funds.

This event was sponsored by numerous entities throughout the state. After hearing about similar events being held in other states, a court trustee from Wyandotte County proposed holding such an event in Kansas as well.
