Dozens of news sites, both foreign and domestic, have reported on the latest celebrity child custody battle that has taken a turn by the alleged wish of one of the sparring exes to split the couple’s children down the middle.
K.G., a former television star, is suing his ex-wife, C.G., a reality television star, for physical custody of their youngest child.
K.G. has proposed, as outlined in court documents, that he take over the primary custody of his son, aged six, while his former wife maintains custody of their daughter, aged nine.
One issue is that K.G. currently resides with his new wife, K.W., in New York. C.G. resides in Beverly Hills, in the same home the couple once shared while married, and where the children have been raised.
Six-year-old J.G. has often visited his father in New York.
K.G.’s lawyer submitted the documents to the Los Angeles Court. The documents state that “(
K.G.) shall have primary physical custody of (J.G.) and (C.G.) shall have primary physical custody of (M.G.). The parties shall share joint legal custody of both children.”
The proposal is dated April 29.
The document continues by suggesting that J.G. attend school in Chicago – where K.G. is living – and that M.G. continues her schooling in Los Angeles.
Both K.G. and C.G. would split their children’s vacation time.
C.G. has since filed for primary custody of both children. She told the press that her desire was to keep the young siblings together.
C.G. has allegedly said that K.G.’s motivation was because he “only” wanted “their son.”
Lance Spiegel, K.G.’s lawyer, told media that “(K.G.’s) priority is to protect both of his children and he will not make further comment, except that their statement is inaccurate.”
J.G. has been visiting his father in New York as that is where K.G. is filming new movie.
J.G. also attended his father’s wedding while M.G. forwent the nuptials, choosing to stay home with her mother instead.
C.G. responded less than a month, requesting full custody, after K.G. had sought primary custody of both of the couple’s children.
C.G. has contended that her former husband only filed for custody “in order to create a false impression to the media and to wrongfully disparage” her. Her statement was filed in a separate set of court documents at the Los Angeles Superior Court.
As told to People magazine, a source close to C.G. stated, “She will continue to fight aggressively to keep her kids and keep her kids together. (K.G.’s) not been civil. (C.G.) has tried to reach out without lawyers on multiple occasions and been rebuffed.”
The source further attested that C.G. “would love to have a relationship with (K.G.) for the kids’ sake,” but it’s impossible because “(K.G.) will not communicate with her.”
The division of property is common in a divorce, but the division of children, as mentioned in this story, is not. Protect your most valuable assets, your children, and contact a family law attorney for help with child custody matters.
