Parents May Face Long Delays for Child Support

If Governor Brian Sandoval is successful in getting his budget cuts pushed through, parents who collect child support could be facing long delays.

The Clark County office for child support enforcers could lost 14 staff members, which they say would dramatically affect their ability to help parents in the county. Under Sandoval's proposal ten full-time staff would be laid off. They are responsible for handling 77,000 cases and are expected to pick up more.

In addition to staff cuts the Child Support Employment Assistance Program would be eliminated altogether. This program is vital for non-custodial parents who need job training assistance in order to pay off their child support bills. Many fathers in this program are already $30,000 to $60,000 behind in debt, and the elimination of this program could make those numbers worse.
