Oklahoma Family Fights for Daughter in DHS Custody Battle

A father is fighting for the custody of his 18-month-old daughter who was unexpectedly removed from his home and placed in the care of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS).

Christopher Webb and his wife Brandy Webb had no idea that just a month after moving to Oklahoma from Texas they would face a huge child custody battle.

DHS removed Samantha Webb from the custody of her parent's home after learning that Christopher Webb was a  sex offender. In 1997 Webb was sentenced to 12 years for a crime he committed with a 12-year-old girl. Webb has since completed his sentence, and said there are no laws or stipulations that prevent him from being with his daughter.

"I'm done with everything I was supposed to do and my daughter was home safe, happy, she's loving, we love her, and she's hurting now, and we're hurting, and it's an injustice being doing to us," said Webb.

Brandy Webb was told to make a home for her daughter in Texas, so she moved nearly 100 miles away. But even though Brandi Webb took the advice she was given by moving away from her husband, Samantha has still not been returned home.

"This is our worst nightmare coming true," said Brandy Webb. "Our daughter has been ripped from us with no cause. I just want her home."

A judge has decided to move the custody case to Texas. Samantha has still not been released but the Webb's are confident she'll be returned soon.

"They take kids for any reason without just cause, without due process," said Christopher Webb. "It's not about me, it's about my daughter. I love her, and she needs to be brought home."

DHS has yet to comment on the case.
