The very high profile divorce between Frank and Jamie McCourt continues as Jamie recently sought to have the divorce agreement reached in 2011 thrown out. During the original divorce proceedings there was a great deal of back-and-forth concerning the fate of the LA Dodgers baseball team which Frank owned. Jamie had served as an executive in the organization and was presumably familiar with the business side of the team. A settlement was reached in which Jamie received over $130 million and Frank retained full ownership of the Dodgers. In 2012, five months after the divorce settlement was reached, Frank McCourt sold the team to Guggenheim Baseball Management for an unheard of $2.15 billion. The deal also included several agreements concerning the property that the stadium is on. Frank will be getting $7 million or more a year from the Dodgers in rental fees for use of the stadium parking lots since he retains half ownership of the lots. Guggenheim can purchase Frank McCourt's ownership stake in the lots for $150 million if they choose to do so in the future. Jamie McCourt argues that she was misled by Mr. McCourt concerning the value of the Dodgers which led her to file to have the 2011 divorce settlement thrown out. Make sure you have the help of a skilled and highly knowledgeable divorce lawyer if you have any questions concerning property and asset division, spousal support or other issues.
A Los Angeles Superior Court Judge reviewed the case and recently ruled on it. The judge stated that the original divorce settlement still stands in light of the fact that he finds it "not credible" that Jamie McCourt was unaware or misled by Mr. McCourt about the value of the base ball team. The ruling was primarily based on the fact that Jamie's involvement with the team as a high-level executive which dealt with various financial evaluations. An attorney representing the former Mrs. McCourt said that they plan to appeal the court's decision.
