A woman that met a man on the internet, thought he was someone he wasn’t, had a child with him and then signed a document without reading it, is now in the midst of a custody battle for her baby, as reported by NBC Philadelphia.
K.G., 29, met her “Mr. Perfect” when she went onto an online dating site looking for a romantic relationship. She claims that she hesitated meeting the man at first, and finally agreed to seeing him in a public restaurant outside of Philadelphia. Through a series of several more dates she understood that “Ed” was divorced, worked for the CIA and his last name is Dupont.
K.G., now a single mother in Plymouth Meeting, Pa, told reporters, “He said, ‘My last name is Dupont,’ and I’m like, okay. And I said, ‘related to the Duponts?’ And he said, ‘Yes.’”
Then, as the relationship grew romantic and sexually intimate, “Ed” starting discussing the idea of marriage. K.G. said, “He also was talking about having kids. He said he never could have kids because him and his wife, she couldn’t get pregnant.”
When K.G. became pregnant at first, she claims, “Ed” demanded that she abort the child – he later allegedly changed his mind. It was at this time that “Ed” asked her to sign a form so that he could claim his rights as the child’s father.
K.G. did not understand the paperwork but signed the documents anyway.
After the child was born the two shared the responsibilities of caring for the baby. K.G. said that he was getting his home ready for his new family to move in. But one day, “Ed” failed to return their child from an outing as expected.
K.G. said, “That’s when he told me that the paperwork I actually signed was me giving up the rights, not to him to have his rights. It was me giving up my rights so his wife could adopt my baby, and I said, ‘Are you kidding me?’”
She added, “There’s no words for it. I’m just so angry at him. I couldn’t even believe that someone was capable of something like that.”
K.G. soon learned that the married “Ed” – not a Dupont and not an employee of the CIA – also claimed that he would have never asked K.G. to abort their child as he’s pro-life.
Luckily for E.G. a judge saw it her way and overturned the adoption, based on fraud.
But “Ed” and his wife are appealing. In “Ed’s” court papers he claims that he never spoke of marriage to K.G. and that there was visible proof in his home – framed photographs of he and his wife – that were in K.G.’s full view when she visited.
The attorney representing “Ed” and his wife refused to comment on the pending litigation.
