Getting an Increase in Alimony

If you are currently receiving alimony and have learned that your ex-spouse has increased his income, you may be eligible to get an increase in alimony as well. However, this is not always the case and you need to understand what qualifies for an increase in alimony payments. In most cases, a judge will look at the circumstances of your marriage to determine alimony payments. When your spouse increases his salary after the divorce, this may not qualify for an increase in your alimony payments as a result. In order to have your own payments increased, you will need to show a judge how sacrifices you made during the marriage allowed your spouse to receive that increase in pay.
For example, if you helped your spouse during school, whether financially or in another fashion, the increase in pay could be shown to be linked to your support. In that case, you may be granted an increase in alimony. To learn what options you have when it comes to the topic of alimony, speak with a family lawyer as soon as possible to become informed.
