Domestic Abuse Ends in Tragedy

If you expect that a friend or loved one is the victim of domestic violence, you need to seek help for that person. It could prevent them from being involved in a serious domestic violence incident, such as the one that happened on May 31, 2009.

On that day, a 42-year-old husband and father forced his wife and two children to remain in their apartment. He threatened to hurt them should they attempt to leave, and he banned them from using the phone. While this was the final straw that broke the camel's back, this was certainly not the husband's first tangle with the law.

Over a period of 21 years, he pleaded guilty or was found guilty of 25 offenses. These ranged from theft of $10,000 to driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license.

As a result of the May 31st incident, a judge sentenced him to 17 years behind bars. A jury found him to be guilty of multiple charges, including misdemeanor domestic violence with aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping.

If you are a domestic violence victim, don't wait to get help from a family law attorney who can help you stop abuse and prevent future harm.
