Bill Mason, prosecutor for Cuyahoga County, helped bring justice to one family that hasn't been receiving child support payments. In the case of 34-year-old Kareem Lanier, there was a total of $36,939.45 in unpaid support for his child.
The last time that Lanier made a payment to the mother of his four-year-old child was back on Dec. 15, 2009 for the amount of $200. He did attend both hearings for his child support payments between 2008 and 2010 in Juvenile Court.
This charge of non-support carries is a fifth-degree felony and could bring Lanier up to one year in prison. His case was investigated by the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office and the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency.
Although a court may have granted you child support payments from a former spouse or partner, that doesn't mean he or she will make those payments. If you are experiencing difficulty getting the money you need and deserve to raise your child, it is time to seek help from a family law attorney.
