Parents Fail to Pay Child Support after Receiving Money from Oil Spill

After the tragic oil spill caused by a massive oil company, the state of Oklahoma received almost $20 billion in a fund intended to pay back those victims of the spill.

However, the Department of Human Services quickly learned that many of those individuals who were listed as recipients of this oil money were also due to pay child support. Many of these people had failed to make their payments, keeping the money from the oil spill to use for their own purposes. In a massive state sweep conducted this month, the government was able to collect $19,000 worth of payments from delinquent parents.

This came after nearly six months of research conducted by the department into which parents were most likely to be recipients of the oil money. After pinning down the guilty parties, the department then had to issue subpoenas to each person. While it has been a massive effort that has taken thousands of man hours, the effort has been well worth it in the eyes of the department.

Are you owed child support payments? If so, it is important that you hire a family lawyer who can help you collect what is owed to you and your children.
