Child Support Collections Increase in New Mexico

In Santa Fe, New Mexico, the state Human Services Department told news sources that it has successfully collected a record-setting amount of child support payment. On Monday, the department said that during the fiscal year that ended last month, it was able to collect $115 million in child support. This was a 4% increase compared to the last fiscal year.

The Department said that 60% of payments were made through withholding parents' wages. After withholding income, the Department is responsible for getting the funds to custodial parents. It also said that 7% of child support collections came from parents' unemployment benefits.

Anytime parents are delinquent with child support payments, the state can choose to enforce payment obligations by revoking professional, occupational and/or driver's license.

If you are owed child support and finding it difficult to get payments, now is the time to consult with a family lawyer who can help you take pro-active measures.
