Man Faces Domestic Violence Charges in Altercation with Domestic Partner

In a rarely reported event of domestic violence between a same-sex couple, a man has been arrested and faces assault and other charges after choking, punching and shoving his domestic life partner, as reported by M Live.

On May 22 D.K., 35, allegedly held a knife to D.G.'s throat and then pushed him down a set of stairs before turning the knife on himself. A female resident that lives below the couple summoned police to their apartment building, in the 400 block of North Farragut Street.

When the police arrived on scene they found the female resident standing next to D.G. inside of the apartment building. Though D.G. had abrasions to his face and neck, the woman told the police to attend to D.K. as soon as possible as he's "probably cutting himself with a knife."

Court records show that D.G. described the event as follows: As he lay sleeping D.K. placed a knife to his neck and woke him up by asking, "So. How do you want to kill ourselves?"

D.G. got up and, in an effort to leave his partner, began packing up a bag. While he did this D.K. followed him, choked him and then shoved him down the stairs. The female neighbor saw them fighting and threatened to telephone the police.

At that moment D.K. allegedly told her he was going to cut himself with the knife – and tell the police that D.G. had been the one to cut him.

D.G. had a personal order of protection against D.K. prior to the attack. He admitted that he had failed to call the police when a few days before D.K. had bit him. D.G. told police that he hadn't called for them as he didn't want to get D.K. into any trouble.

Police kicked in the apartment door and arrested D.K. A knife was located on the floor of the living room – splattered with blood.

When police interviewed D.K. he attempted to say that it was D.G. that had grown violent by punching and cutting him. He further denied hurting or threatening D.G. in any way. He finished by saying the apartment belonged to him alone and not to D.G.

Earlier in the year, on March 5, a Bay County Sheriff's deputy had arrested D.K. The two men had been traveling on Interstate 75 when they were pulled over in Frankenlust Township. D.K., in the passenger seat, initially gave the officer a fake name. During the time the deputy was speaking with the two D.G. offered that D.K. was carrying methamphetamine in his shoe.

The deputy ordered D.K. to remove his shoe and hand over the contraband substance – testing showed it to be 0.29 grams of meth. According to court records D.K. claimed that he was ordered by a man at gunpoint to pick up the drugs in Lansing.

D.K. has been charged with assault with intent to cause great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic violence and possession of methamphetamine.

The assault charges will be dismissed, according to a deal offered by the prosecution, if D.K. pleads guilty to all of the remaining charges.
