Melissa Etheridge's Ex Wants More Alimony

The ex-wife of a songstress is claiming that she cannot survive on $23,000 monthly alimony. Since she gave up her own career as an actress to raise their children, she is demanding that a judge raise her monthly payments to a more suitable sum. According to Tammy Lynn Michaels, now ex-wife of Melissa Etheridge, her former acting career was extremely lucrative. However, she stopped acting in order to raise the couple's two children over the past few years. Despite the seemingly-comfortable sum of $23,000 per month, Michaels claims that she used to make $15,000 to $20,000 per week when she started on the television show "Popular." Now that she is divorced, Michaels has also spoken about wanting to go back to school to become a teacher or a nurse.

It is uncertain whether a judge will agree with Michaels regarding the need to raise the alimony. In most cases, $23,000 per month is certainly enough to raise two children and have the time and money to go back to school. Planning to seek alimony in your state? If so, it is advised that you work with a family lawyer that has experience obtaining spousal support payments.
