Child Custody Case Goes Beyond U.S. Borders

A child custody case reaches far beyond the American borders. One woman is fighting to get her child back from her former partner who has fled to Australia. The two women were partners living together in Florida when they decided to have a child. One woman provided the egg while the other woman carried it to completion. Several years later the women, who were police officers in the state, decided to split. Shortly after the woman who gave birth to the child, now an 8-year-old girl, fled to Australia.

With the help of a private detective, the biological mother was able to locate her former partner and their daughter. She has since filed for custody of their child in Florida, a case which is now up for review by the state Supreme Court. However, the justices have not confirmed that they will actually hear the case. Are you fighting with your spouse/partner over child custody? Take the time to consult a family lawyer so you are aware of your rights and options as a parent.
