Child Custody Guidelines that Make Arrangments Easier

Have you recently agreed to a child custody arrangement with your former spouse/partner? If so, there are some guidelines you should consider that can make the process easier to adjust to. When you meet with your partner to exchange children, keep any topics discussed pertinent only to the exchange. Do not use this time to bring up issues regarding your divorce or personal feelings towards your spouse. It is unnecessary and potentially harmful for your children to hear these types of conversations.

Do not use this time to bring new people into your child's life. If you are going on a date or want to introduce your child to a new boyfriend/girlfriend, do it at a time when your spouse is not present. It will stir up unnecessary hurt feelings and create an atmosphere of conflict that your child is certain to notice. And finally, be prepared for all of your exchanges. Make sure you have everything you need to take care of your child for the amount of time you are supposed to be with him/her. Should you have issues related to your child custody agreement, it may be time to consult a family law attorney in your area.
