While fans mourn the loss of Don Cornelius, the long-time host of Soul Train, his wife is working with lawyers to collect a large sum of money. As per their divorce settlement two years ago, she is supposed to walk away with $300,000 for two different life insurance policies. Cornelius, 72, reportedly committed suicide last week. His death came as a shock to many but perhaps not to his ex-wife who was familiar with his emotional battles. A celebrity news website dug up several court documents showing the couple's struggles during their marriage. There were several restraining orders filed after numerous accusations of domestic violence. One of the attacks reportedly involved pepper spray.

According to the insurance company, a policyholder that takes his own life after a period of at least two years will enable the beneficiary to collect the entire sum.
