State of Virginia Develops New Child Support Plan

In order to ensure that custodial parents receive the money they need through child support, the state of Virginia has developed a new plan. Entitled $4KIDS, this program will rely on electronic measures to make access to child support funds easier and more efficient. Developed by the state's Department of Social Services, this program allows non-custodial parents to make their child support payments in a variety of ways. Parents can pay online or over the phone, 24/7, both of which are free of charge.

The new program tweaked the last program established in July 2007. Since 2009, the state has processed over 325,000 monthly payments, collecting a total of $60.5 million. This amounts to a monthly average of roughly $2.3 million, more than was being collected under the older child support collection programs.
