Usher Raymond, more commonly known simply as "Usher" to his R & B fans, has been in a lengthy battle with his former wife, Tameka Foster, over the custody of couple's children, and returned to Fulton County Court on August 14, as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and other news media.
Raymond and Foster currently have a co-parenting agreement. However, Raymond is citing his former wife for poor parenting in hopes of gaining sole custody.
The couple has two boys, aged 3 and 4.
Under videotaped proceedings, Raymond said that though he must manage his work commitments at times, he makes his children his focus each time they are with him. Raymond said, "I try to do all of my work when I don't have the children, but there may be times when there's an obligation of something that comes up."
Two weeks ago Foster's first born son died following a major brain injury. Ryan Glover, an Atlanta TV executive, fathered Foster's son, Kile Glover, 11 years ago. The boy was riding on an inner tube, along with a 15 year-old girl, when a man on a personal watercraft struck them.
During the last two weeks there was some confusion, according to Foster, over allowing Raymond his visitation time. Foster explained, "Of course, there was no provision for visitation regarding the death of a child. I'm sorry I didn't stick with my visit days, but my son passed."
Foster was questioned as to her parenting, beginning from the time she had given birth to Kile when she as 19. Foster admitted to committing petty thefts – such as stealing baby care items – as she felt it was necessitated by her circumstances.
Foster, now claiming to be a successful businesswoman, said, "Yes, I stole things. I stole diapers before. I've gone in 7-Eleven and stolen diapers out of the store. I admit it. I was 19 years old. I'm not proud of it. I wouldn't do it now."
Foster also stated that she had "begged" Raymond to withdraw his petition for sole custody of their children on more than one occasion.
Foster added, "I was like, 'It's ridiculous, are you mad at me? I don't know why. You know your kids are fine. They're happy. They're productive.' ... Maybe I don't do everything perfectly, but I do the best I can."
Foster went on to explain that during the two weeks that her son lay dying she had asked Raymond to visit the boy and yet he "visited Kile in the hospital only once." Later, according to Foster, begging from Raymond again, she wanted him to send out a tweet that asked his followers to "Please pray for Kile."
Foster claims that Raymond refused her on that score as well.
