State Falls Short on Child Support Collections

Each state is subject to frequent legislative audits regarding the collection of child support, and one state was found to have come up seriously short over the last several years.
According to an audit conducted by the Department of Human Resources Child Support Enforcement Agency, the state failed to collect $1.72 billion between 2007 and 2010. During that time, the state was only able to collect $530 million. While the majority of funds are collected by withholding wages, the report shows that the state did not utilize all of its tools effectively to obtain additional funds from delinquent parents.
After reviewing the details of their survey, the agency passed along several recommendations. These included the suspension of driver's licenses when necessary, seizure of bank account funds for negligence over $500, as well as a review of local offices around the state to ensure that everyone is working at their optimum capacity to collect funds.
