Nashville Experiences Decline in Domestic Violence

After watching the number of domestic violence cases dropped increase over a four-year period, police in Nashville were surprised to see a sudden decline in 2010.
According to police reports, the number of domestic violence cases that were dropped increased dramatically from 200 in 2005 to 5,500 in 2009. When domestic violence victims refuse to cooperate with the police, officers are forced to drop many of their cases. In 2010, however, the number of dropped cases declined to 1,200.
Kristin Mumford, police spokeswoman for the department, contemplated that "perhaps more victims are cooperating" as the reason for this serious decline.
