100 People Show Up to Promote Domestic Violence Awareness Despite Poor Weather

Even though the skies were cloudy and thunder was threatening to strike, more than 100 people turned out for a domestic violence awareness event in Dexter, Maine this weekend.

The event was meant to honor the three domestic violence victims - Coty, Amy and Monica Lake - who lost their lives at the hands of Steven Lake. It is a tragic yet all-too-common story about an ex-spouse, Steven in this case, taking out his anger on his wife, Amy, and their two children. In honor of the Lake family, dozens of members of the community came armed with purple balloons to raise awareness about the dangers of domestic violence. Even the local school board decided to let the children out early in order to attend the event.
