Dr. David Z. Martin, 55, thought he could evade paying thousands of dollars in child support. However, he was recently detained by police at John F. Kennedy International Airport after de-boarding a flight from Oman.
They were able to apprehend him with a warrant that dates back to 1998 from Carson County, Texas. In 2002 Martin was added to the Child Support Evader list and have kept law enforcement officials busy since then. Police in several states have followed leads in the attempt to locate him, including some that believed he was in Costa Rica or was working with horses in a warm climate.
He was finally discovered when he was arrested in Oman for entering the country illegally without a valid passport. Since Martin owes more than $2,500 in child support American law prohibits him from obtaining or renewing his passport.
Unable to collect child support payments from a former spouse or partner? Now is the time to work with a family lawyer.
