Understanding Divorce Settlements
Posted on Dec 29, 2011 8:30pm PST
While no two divorce settlements are alike, there are four basic issues that are covered by nearly every divorce settlement. Understanding what these are can make your divorce easier and faster.
When reviewing any divorce case, an attorney will ask you about these four topics: division of property, child custody, division of debt and payment of spousal and/or child support. Even with divorces that are uncontested by both parties, each person will need to consider these four areas as they apply to the divorce. Although an uncontested divorce is much easier to process and is likely to be completed faster, not all couples are able to discuss their divorce calmly.
Couples that cannot even sit in the same room will be forced to go the long, expensive route instead. This usually involves two attorneys that battle it out for their clients over property, money and child custody. If you do not want to take this route, call our law offices to discuss your divorce with a family law attorney.
