Rights Extended to Same Sex Couples in State College

As more and more towns, cities and boroughs pass domestic partnership laws recognizing same-sex unions, more people are getting access to the same rights that heterosexual partners have long enjoyed.

Recently, a vote was met by unanimous approval last week by a council, which means that domestic partners in the borough of State College will now have the option to be recognized legally as couples. Although other boroughs in the Pennsylvania have already made this step, residents of State College are ecstatic about the changes the new ordinance will bring. It will allow domestic partners to access insurance policies, name their partners as heirs and much more.

State College is now the third municipality that is bringing domestic partnership rights to the forefront. The area follows Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in extending rights to domestic partners.
