Prosecutor Says Too Many Parents are Behind on Child Support Payments

Even though their department collected nearly $107 million worth of child support last year, the county's prosecutor spoke this week about hundreds of negligent parents that are still avoiding the system.

Working with local officials, the prosecutor launched a new program backed by law enforcement. He hopes that this program will encourage negligent parents to come forward and work with law officials to make their payments over time. Parents who do not use the program are at risk of a variety of civil and criminal penalties, including suspension of license and assorted fees.

While this isn't the first time that the county has launched a program like this, they hope that the newer version will be more successful. A similar program provides help to those parents who are unable to make payments due to unemployment. The prosecutor told news sources that there are 25,000 parents that have fallen behind on child support payments in his county.

If you are owed child support payments, consult with a family lawyer who can help you obtain the monies you are owed by law.
