Divorce Rate Keeps Getting Lower

There is no doubt that divorce is constantly on the minds of most Americans.  You can think highly publicized divorces, such as the split between Tiger Woods and his former wife.  Due to the constant news stories, many are surprised to hear that divorce rates throughout the country are at their lowest since the 1970s.

In fact, the divorce rate per 1,000 married women dropped to 16.4 in 2009.  Back in 1008, the divorce rate was 16.9 per 1,000 married women and that is nothing compared to the 22.6 per 1,000 married women rate of the 1980s.

Many experts assert that the cost of legal fees, tough economic times and high unemployment have all contributed to a lower divorce rate in the country.  However, many couples are still moving forward with divorces and legal separations, despite monetary concerns.
