Illinois Gang Member Asks Court for Paternity Test

A paternity case out of Illinois proves that even gang members want to know when a child might be theirs.

Timothy M. Schmitt thinks he could be the father of a child recently born to Ashley C. Arwood, which is why he has filed a request with the La Salle County Circuit Court to take a DNA test. On Monday, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services filed Schmitt’s paperwork, and will enforce child support payments if Schmitt is indeed the father of Arwood’s baby.

Both Schmitt and Arwood have a criminal past. Schmitt is a known member of the Latin Kings Nation street gang and has been in prison before for selling cocaine. Arwood has been on probation for drug dealing, but may soon be sent to jail for violating her probation by selling cocaine again.
