Utah Man on Hunger Strike over Child Support Payments

A jailed Utah man has gone on a hunger strike to protest what he claims is a lack of justice in his child support payment case. Kenyon Eastin would like his child support payments lowered from $800 a month to $525, claiming that he cannot survive while making payments that high, but his judge has refused to lower the payments. "It's not that I don't want to pay my child support, I cannot afford what the judge has set and he says I am voluntarily unemployed," Eastin stated. Eastin has changed his job from a financial adviser to a painter, and according to Eastin, the judge says that Eastin is overqualified for his current work and therefore will not adjust Eastin's payments.
Eastin was sent to jail last week after refusing to verbally give his reasoning for non-payment. Eastin claims he will continue his hunger strike and refusal to pay child support until his case is heard and understood. He is due back in court on June 21.
If you require a modification in your child support payments for whatever reason, don't go on a hunger strike. Instead, find a family lawyer who can assist you.
