Louisiana to Hold onto Casino Winnings for Unpaid Child Support

In Baton Rouge, house members recently passed legislation that would require riverboat operations and local casinos to hold onto people's winnings if they are past due on their child support payments. There was only one vote against the measure.
According to Representative Robert Johnson, the new piece of legislation would affect those who won $1,200 or more while gambling. This is the same level of winnings that casinos must issue federal tax documentation for.
Johnson told news sources that the state Department of Social services will have to submit their computer data base of parents who are delinquent on their child support payments to gambling operators throughout the state. At this time, parents in the state owe more than $1 billion for unpaid child support, which is an astounding number.
