Woman Shot and Killed during Domestic Violence Dispute
Posted on Jul 1, 2010 3:00pm PDT
A woman in the Capital Heights neighborhood of Maryland was shot twice, apparently by her husband, who was in turn shot by police. Police responded to reports of shots fired and found the woman in her Pennsylvania Avenue home with a gunshot wound to the side. The woman was taken to Jackson Hospital where she later died. Police then identified the suspected shooter down the street from the home in his vehicle.
It was then that the suspect brandished his gun and the officers felt threatened enough to fire. The suspect sustained at least two gunshots to his leg and is listed in critical condition. As a matter of procedure after any officer discharges his weapon, the Department of Public Safety is looking into the shooting to determine if the firing officer(s) acted justly. A police officer sustained a minor injury in the incident as a result of flying glass.
