Adoptive Mother Wins Appeal - Gets to Keep Custody of 2 Year Old

In the state of California, the appellate court has ruled that an adopted 2 year old girl will remain in the custody of her adoptive mother. For the time being, the girl's birth father will stay with the adoptive mother, thus temporarily resolving their child custody dispute.

Stacey Doss initiated the adoption process for 2 year old Vanessa by working with the girl's birth mother. Soon after, she became entangled in a custody battle the girl's biological father who lives in Ohio.

Weeks ago, an Orange County judge sent the case back to Ohio due to jurisdiction laws. An Ohio judge then ordered that Vanessa be returned to Ohio and placed in foster care until a decisions was made regarding custody.

Doss was expected to turn Vanessa over to officials in Ohio on Friday. However, the court's new order has halted the turn over for the time being.
