Child Support Case Leads to Arrest for Misconduct

A prosecutor in Oregon took his power too far when he suggested that a woman wear a revealing dress to court in order to reduce her charges. Rand Overton, 58, was sentenced to thirty days and two years of probation after pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree official misconduct. During his probationary period he will not be able to work as a government lawyer.
It all began when he suggested to one of his clients that if she wore a revealing dress without her underwear that he might be lenient in his attempt to collect child support from him. The woman, Sheila Snyder, said that he had asked her to visit him "not wearing any underwear." Overton officially rebutted by saying he was only attempting to make a joke.
Two counts of coercion had also been tacked on to the charges of official misconduct but have since been dropped for using his position to obtain sexual favors.
When you are having difficulty making child support payments, consult with a family lawyer to get the help you need for upcoming court appearances.
