Child Support Sweep Leads to Numerous Arrests

This week in Hamilton, police say that a three county child support enforcement sweep led to the arrests of 39 people. Officials say that they were able to collect $600,000 in child support payment. The news was announced on Friday, August 13, at a news conference.

Police say that 33 arrests were made on felony charges in Butler, Hamilton and Montgomery counties. The tough crackdown was conducted in honor of National Child Support Awareness month, which takes place in August.

This month, in Butler County alone there have been 50 arrests for nonpayment of child support. 29 arrests were for felonies and 21 arrests were for misdemeanor offenses.

Sheriff Richard K. Jones said, "The reason we do this is because they don't pay their support."

The agencies involved in the sweep were the County prosecutor's office, the US Marshal's office and the Butler County Child Support Enforcement Agency.
