This past weekend, a 5k walk raised money for Safehouse of Seminole, a shelter that serves victims of domestic violence. At the Safehouse of Seminole, victims feel and secure and many report that it is the first time they have felt protected in years.
Prior to the walk, the names of 27 victims of domestic violence slayings over the past three years in Seminole County were read out loud. One of the names was Amanda Shafer, a 21 year old who was killed this past week. After her death, her boyfriend confessed to stabbing her.
Organizers on the event told news sources that they managed to raise $9,500 during the event. Director of Safehouse, Jeane Gold, said that 400 people participated, which is roughly the same number of women and children who seek refuge at the Safehouse of Seminole each year.
If you have been a victim of domestic violence, now is the time to protect yourself by securing help from a family law attorney near you.
