Post Office Files Lawsuit for Child Support Collection Scheme

The United States Postal Service has filed a lawsuit against a private child support collections company, claiming the company used mail in a collection scheme.
USPS filed its lawsuit in federal court against Child Support Services of Atlanta, claiming the company sent letters to employers of parents in the Memphis area who are divorced or living separately from their children.
In the lawsuit, USPS claims Child Support Services of Atlanta threatened and intimidated the parents in order to collect money, and went to fraudulent lengths to hide the fact that it was a private business, not a state or county-run child support agency. Furthermore, according to the lawsuit, the company kept all of the money it collected.
Mitch Morgan, the former child support services director in Shelby County, said the letter looks legitimate, and that most employers would not be able to tell it's a fake. Morgan also said this is not the first time he has heard of a private company trying to fraudulently garnish wages from parents.
It is still unclear whether or not the victims of the scheme will be reimbursed, as well as when they can expect to be reimbursed if at all possible.
Child Support Services of Atlanta has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
