Child Support Amnesty Program Offered in Alabama

Deadbeat parents in Baldwin County, Alabama will be given the chance to make good on their unpaid child support payments.

The Baldwin County District Attorney's Office and the Department of Human Resources are offering an amnesty program to parents who have fallen behind on their child support payments.

From Dec. 9 until Dec.16, parents who are wanted for failing to make child support payments can meet with prosecutors and have their writ of arrest canceled as long as they agree to catch up on their past payments and make future ones.

District Attorney Judy Newcomb says she hopes the program will be helpful to those parents who want to support their kids, but have either lost their job or have fallen on hard times.

Newcomb was clear that past child support will not be forgiven, but rather people will have the chance to work out a plan to repay their past due child support without being arrested, even if there is an arrest warrant issued in their name.

If anyone is interested in participating in the program they are asked to call the Child Support Services Division of Newcomb's office at (251) 937-0253.
