North Carolina Thinking of New Ways to Collect Child Support

States like North Carolina are thinking of new ways to collect late child support payments. After hearing time and again that negligent parents just couldn't find jobs to make the payments, the Department of Health and Human Services started brainstorming with one county.
With almost $831 million owed to the state in child support, $18 million alone in Durham County, it was time for legislators in that county to put their heads together. A new program will be enacted this month that will help parents behind on payments get the job training they need. The program will be available only to those who qualify. Those lucky applicants will be put through a rigorous job-training program, which includes a computer skills component, as well as help finding jobs near them.
By completing this program, the state hopes that these parents will then be able to find gainful employment and start making regular child support payments.
